Really enjoyed it. Went to see it with no idea what it was about. For the first few minutes I got the "so another gringo movie about a straight white man saving the planet" thought, but was pleasantly surprised about the rest of it.

I promise it is good. It's not the hardest of science fictions (regardless of what the author may think). It's easy to read and easier to enjoy. Now to the film (next kudos)

Nice day. It's apparently made for relaxation but then there's an added stress about having to relax. Highly recommend not having school or work the next day (Monday) to avoid anxiety.

bun gave A yellow face with furrowed eyebrows looking upwards with thumb and index finger resting on its chin. to Commonwealth (Patchett novel)

Started off quite good but fizzled out towards the end. I think the narrative jumped around too much and wasn’t as engaging as it could’ve been. More time should’ve been spent on when the kids were together during summers and when Franny was with Leo Posen.

It was interesting and the angle of being Asian in white America was very raw. I think the family dynamics between the two older kids and the parents was good, but parts of the story felt unrealistic. None of them have any friends? The rest of the family never think about the youngest kid? If they talked about literally anything within the family, half of the drama would've been easily solved. Both parents did things wrong, of course, but the dad was a bum throughout, imo.

It got me out of a slump and kept me intrigued throughout. I wish the ending had more drama and confrontation. I liked the subtle probing of ideas.

An engaging read, and my favorite kind of nonfiction. Gave me a lot to think about in terms of mortality and the line between justice and revenge. The death penalty is insane!

my comfort book. so funny and endearing! I do think it's the weakest of her books though. if the covid chapter was wiped from everyone's collective memory, it would be better. I still come away with something different every reread.

bun gave A yellow face with furrowed eyebrows looking upwards with thumb and index finger resting on its chin. to Emma (novel)

Austen writes everything with intentionality, and reading her novels is always a treat in terms of prose and narrative. 'I could talk about it more, if I loved you less' is a great line but the story was kinda insane at the end with the (potential? likely?) grooming that happened. I know the 18th and 19th centuries were a different time but geez. still worth reading imo.

Haunting. I was afraid to meditate for three days afterwards because I was worried that the scenes from the book would return to me while my eyes were closed. The atmosphere and ending were very well done though!

I enjoyed the editor and office girl's narrative the most. Focusing so much on the bodies was a great anchor for the narrative, and gave a strange, mundane feeling to the unthinkable happening all around the characters.

my first Austen! really enjoyed reading this, so much drama and entertainment. great prose too. loved the bits where Darcy talked about books to Elizabeth (so romantic and funny imo). wish they had more scenes together though. their dialogue together was the best part.

Very pleasant read, even if it's not Steinbeck's best prose. My favorite bit was the absurd humor in Doc's ability to make any dog smile.
